The amount of times I have to say "lleno" to get gas is remarkable. And it seems to be getting worse every time.
Buying Fuel in Mexico
Gas stations in Mexico have a operator, basically they are full service gas stations. The attendant will direct you to the pumping area and pump gasoline to your vehicle. They will ask for the type of gas you need and how much gas. So if you need full tank, you say lleno (yay-noh) or if not specify the monetary amount. Make sure the attendant set the pump to zero before dispensing.
As of 2023, gas prices are roughly MX $20.7 pesos per liter. Most common types of gasoline are the following
-
Regular unleaded, 87 octanes
-
Premium, high octane, 93 octanes
-
Diesel

Additionally they will ask if you need you windshields cleaned, oil check, tire pressure check/fill, fill you car with coolant or water or any other minor job.

Once it is time to pay, most gas stations in major cities accept cards but do carry cash in case gas stations do not accept cards. You need to tip the attendant typically 3-5% of the cost of your fuel and if you accepted additional service 5-10% of the cost of your fuel.
